Summer Lovin'

Happy July 1st! Summer time is my absolute favorite time of the year. I love shorts every day, pool parties and summer time recipes. I thought it would be fun to share a couple of my favorite summer things I'm loving right now.

I am loving these tanks from Half Pint Kids! Declan looks so cute in her tanks & bibs and I really hope she expands and adds more items soon.

By this time of year , we would have already been on a couple of mini vacations. This year we're a little behind, but this week we head for fun in the sun! This weekender bag I found at Target is a perfect travel/mama/diaper bag! >> PS it's on clearance right now & also on the Cartwheel app <<

On that same Target trip, I came across these awesome foam letters for Declan's room! At 3.99 each, they are super affordable especially for nick-names. I can't wait to put them up in his room. ( I would suggest using command strips for these )

Lastly I am in LOVE with bright lipstick. I never really thought I could pull it off until one day my sissy and I decided it was time for me to branch out. Boy, am I glad I did. I can't get enough color!

Below I am wearing Mega Shine Plush Red by NYX. My other favorite right now is Stay all Day Vinyl Lip Gloss By Stila in Fuschia Vinly

What are you summer loving lately?

Simple Summer Salad

Hey guys!

Lately I have been paying close attention to what I put in my body. Mainly, I've been trying to eliminate sugar and "bad" carbs from my diet. I still have lots of unwanted pregnancy weight and working out wasn't enough. I needed a huge diet change. I started realizing how much sugar I was eating and I needed to change.

Pinterest has been a huge help in finding great low carb/low sugar recipes. I've also been very conscious about reading labels. Just because something says "organic" or "natural" or even whole wheat does not make it automatically healthy. Each week I've been choosing a new healthy lunch option ( after eating eggs for breakfast ) and also a lean dinner option. This weeks lunch is super super simple to make and It tastes awesome!

Avocado & Feta Salad

I've seen this floating around Pinterest but I didn't follow a recipe for mine. I literally just threw it together

My version ( one serving )

1/2 fresh tomato
1/2 Avocado
1/3 red onion
A table spoon of fresh deli feta cheese

Pepper, if needed ( I did not add salt since the feta is already salty )

Mix together and let it sit in the fridge for about 20-30 mins and it's perfect! If you can't eat it right away you may want to add the Avocado right before you indulge.

It's also a great base to add a meat if you choose.

It's so good!! Really , it's so good.

If you are vegan or lactose intolerant you can also skip the cheese or make your own feta version using tofu. Here's a quick recipe from Food.com

Enjoy!

California Dreamin'

It's no secret that I'm a California girl, a southern CA girl to be exact. Born and raised, left once, came back. My hubby and I were born here, went to college in So Cal and we plan to raise our family here. So needless to say I love that California Cool decorating style. Since things with Declan have become a little easier to manage ( read more about that here ) MB and I thought it would be a great time to spruce up the house again.

With me being a stay at home mom, we are on a strict budget so, many projects we will take on ourselves. Thank God I have a handy hubby =) Naturally I've been searching Pinterest, design sites & design blogs for inspiration. I also have some thoughts of my own, but that will come in due time. I've finally reached a point in Dex's room where I feel like it's almost done. I've updated his gallery wall and I'm thinking about replacing his bassinet that I currently use for toy storage with a Tee Pee or something to play in. Here is a another picture of the gallery wall from this previous post

I like it so far, and I don't think I'll need to change it any time soon.

So with his room being good so far, I want to focus on the living room & Dining area. We live in a town home so space is quite limited. Here some inspiration photos that I found & that I think would help brighten up our space >> Click on each photo for the source

I love the dark wood and the bright colors in this space

I love that plant! I'm just not sure if that is smart with an 18 month old roaming around lol! ><

I saw this poster and I immediately fell in love with it. MUST. FIND. IT.

That's all for now. Of course as things change around here I will share with you. The first change may be the "office' area under the stairs.... Stay tuned!

[ Weekend Wrap-Up ]

Hey! I promise I'm not neglecting this blog, but since starting Dex & Bodie I have been putting a lot of energy getting that blog up and running. In case you don't know what our new blog is about, here's a little back ground. Declan, our son, was born with a rare chromosome disorder called Uniparental Disomy 14/Pat. Since it's so rare, we thought we would document our journey and hopefully help others in the process. You can check it out here: Dex & Bodie

This post is a little late but here's a little bit of our weekend >>

I worked on a few new prints that will be added soon to House of Declan
I call this the grown-up ABC's // You can totally put this in your kid's room or a large size in your living room

Dex decided that mommy's kimonos are his new favorite accessory along with a a room full of toys

We got the chance to watch our beautiful nieces dance Hula. They are part Hawaiian and it's so cool to see them embrace their culture at such a young age.

So, how was your weekend? And I guess how is your week going too, haha?

The Giving Series

Hi!! - Things have been very quiet around this blog. Mainly because we have been putting much of our energy into our blog about Declan and his story. Click the tab Dex & Bodie to check it out.

One of the things I have been wanting to do but have never really started is making prints for charity. I've been looking for ways I could give regularly and recently I decided to start the ' Giving series'. These prints will be instant downloaded prints in our Etsy shop and all proceeds will go to a different charity or organization each month. There will new prints or even recycled prints that you will be able to print, frame or give away. The prints will cost $2.00 and at the end of every month we will send over all proceeds to the charity and I'll post here when that is done!

The first print is now listed and you can find it here!

This Month's Giving will go to The Unique - Rare Chromosome group. We are members of this group and we love the work and the caring these people show. They recognize that each child is different and unique and just because you may have a chromosome abnormality, you are still very special and you matter.

[ Weekend Roundup! ]

Hey!! It's time for another weekend wrap-up ( after not having a post in forever ).

This past weekend was busy as usual but it's always a blessing to do things you love!

Saturday I had the chance to participate in an Easter boutique with friends & it was so fun! The kids took pictures with the Easter bunny ( Dex did not cry, what! ) and we had lots of shoppers & champagne!

I also had the chance to shop with some cool vendors, like Guy Blanco. Check his site out and you'll find some really cute things like this skull ring! Perfect for stacking. I love mine.

All in all it was a great weekend! How about you?
